Dear Indian Springs Band Family!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!! We are so excited about the start of this school year, and hope that you are as well! We have a lot of fun activities planned that will challenge you to greater heights than you thought possible to achieve in middle school; are you ready to rise to the challenge?!?!
Week at a glance:
Monday: (No School) We need help from Noon-3:00PM!! They stopped working on the band hall Friday afternoon and we gained access again today (Sunday). Please join us in in the band hall if you are available. We need lots of students and available adults to:
1. Hang frames
2. Organize, sort and put up trophies on shelves
3. Move chairs, stands and risers
4. Move instruments, boxes and equipment where it belongs
Tuesday/Wednesday: You will not need your instruments the first two days of class. However, please bring a pencil, pencil pouch and your 1 1/2 inch black band binder with music and a SMILE starting Wednesday.
· Thursday: Please bring your instrument to school every day starting this Thursday!
Friday: Band Party 3:45-5:45 Gentlemen bring salty snacks and Ladies bring sweet treats to share! We will kick off another great year with games, dancing, and getting to know our fellow band members.
A 7/8 grade band parent meeting will immediately follow from 6:00-6:45PM . Please have the online handbook and other forms completed before attending. We will have computers available to assist in completing these.

Here are some important items of “note” to start this school year:
In a push to “go green” and conserve paper, most crucial information will be emailed home, as well as also posted online at the CHARMS websites listed below. We will be utilizing digital forms instead of paper copies – so veteran parents, brace yourself for a little change.
Band Dates and ISMS sectional schedule: Please read pages 12-16 of the handbook for important dates for the year and our band sectional schedule. All Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band students are required to attend these sectionals. These are small group rehearsals where we will be working on the All-District Band and the All-Region Band audition process during these times.
KISD Fine Arts Enrichment Program. These are also known as private lessons, which are optional but highly encouraged. Complete this form to the band hall if you are interested. Lessons time slots are first come, first served, so turn them in as soon as possible for a good time slot! There is a limited supply of scholarship funds, see director for form.
ISMS Band supply list and music company contact information. This has lots of additional items that are not required, but are great tools and stocking stuffers! If you are not sure exactly what you need, please don’t rush out to fight the crowd to get last minute band supplies (unless you really want to!) We hope to have all students with their supplies by September 1st. If you need more time, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
There will be a 7/8th grade Band Parent Meeting in the ISMS cafeteria on August 18th from 6:00-6:45pm. We hope you will make plans to attend to hear our plans for the year.
This will be a totally new experience for our 7th graders. We will meet as a band everyday! I trust the 8th graders will do their best to be positive role models and help the 7th grade acclimate to our traditions of excellence we are known for. The band directors promise to do our best to make this the best year possible. If you ever have any questions about anything that we are doing in our band program please ask!
Again, we look forward to a wonderful year and are proud to have you!
